StainlessSteelinitsannealedconditionwithcarbideorceramictools.Itisnottypicallyweldedasitis

pronetoairhardening.Ifweldingisnecessary,theworkpiecemustbepreheatedto500°F.After

welding,treatthemetalfor6hoursatatemperaturebetween1350°Fand1400°F.Then,toavert

cracking,thestainlesssteelmustbefurnacecooledslowly.Stainlesssteelalloy440CStainless

Steelcanonlybemarginallycoldworked.Whenhotworking,themetalmustbekeptatatemperature

above1700°F.Beforebeginninghotworking,preheatthematerialto1400°Fandgraduallyincrease

toatemperaturebetween1900°Fand2200°F.Afterhotworking,cooltheworkpieceslowlyuntilit

reachesroomtemperatureandthenfullyannealit
